How to Back Up your Website

It is very Important that you BACK UP your web site as often as possible for a multitude of reasons, especially after you make any major changes in the content of your web site. After initial setup it is solely the site owners responsibility to keep and maintain a current backup. Lectro Host claims no liability over your websites content please read our Service Level Agreement and our Terms of Service for more information concerning our Back Up Policy and Liabilities.

  • Locate the e-mail that was sent during your initial web site instalation that contains your web site control panel user name and password.
  • Navigate your web browser to www.yourdomainname.com/cpanel , replace yourdomainname with the address of your website. i.e. www.katesflowers.com/cpanel
A username and password box will appear, enter this information (the username and password from your initial web site instalation e-mail). You will be redirected to your websites control panel.(if it is your first time logging into cpanel you will have to update your contact e-mail information before being re directed.)
  • Locate the area labeled FILES and click the Icon/line that says BACKUP WIZARD.

  • You will be presented with a screen that has two options Backup or Restore. Click the button that says BACKUP.

  • You will then see another screen once again with two more options, under Select Partial Backup click HOME DIRECTORY.

  • The next screen you will notice a button that says HOME DIRECTORY that is your file download, click that and you will be prompted with a save dialog box. Browse to where you wish to save your backups and click save, your download will begin immediatly. If your web site is large this can take some time so please be patient.Do not rename the downloaded files or they will become unusable, just click save and leave the file name "as is".You are not done yet, if your site is Powered by JOOMLA or another script you still need to download your database.
  • Once your home directory has been down loaded you will more than likely need to also download your MySQL database. To do this, from the page that you downloaded your home directory from click the link that says Full or Partial Backup. Under the Select Partial Back up field click MySQL DATABASES.
  • On this screen you will see under the databases box your database name (if you run multiple databases all will be listed). Click the name of the database and you will be propmted with a save dialog box, locate the folder where you saved your home directory and click save.

That's it you have just backed up your entire web site.
